Here's exactly what to do when you first open Sage — and what everything on screen actually does.

Quick Start — 3 Steps
Do these in order and Sage will be personalized to your child in about 20 minutes.

Create your account and add your child

Sign up with your email. Then tap Add Child and enter your child's name, grade, and which curriculum their school follows (Alberta, Common Core, etc.). Each child gets their own separate profile.

Tip: You can add multiple children — one subscription covers your whole household.

Run the Diagnostic

From your child's home screen, tap "Discover how you learn". This is a 15-question quiz that maps exactly where your child stands in their core subjects. It takes about 15 minutes and is the most important thing you can do before their first real session.

The results go straight to your parent dashboard. After this, every session Sage has with your child is personalized to exactly where they are.

Tip: Let your child do the diagnostic on their own — it's designed to be independent. No help needed.

Start their first session

Tap any subject on the home screen to start a tutoring session, or use the homework card at the top to get help with tonight's homework. Sage will do the rest.

Tip: Enable Talk to Sage in Settings for younger kids — they just speak and Sage responds out loud. No typing needed.

Homework card (top) — Two buttons: "Help me solve this" (upload homework before doing it) and "Did it click?" (upload after — Sage reviews understanding without grading). This is the #1 daily use case.

Talk to Sage — Voice mode shortcut. Your child just taps and talks. Sage listens and responds out loud in under a second. Enable in Settings first.

Continue — Picks up right where the last session left off. Sage remembers exactly what was happening.

Jump In row — Three quick options: Pop Quiz (8 questions across all subjects), Surprise Me (Sage teaches something fascinating), Practice Pack (focused offline practice).

End button (top left) — Finishes the session and returns to the home screen. The session is saved in history.
The Parent Dashboard
Your window into your child's learning. Access it by tapping 🔒 in the top right of the home screen.

Progress overview — Subject levels, recent sessions, concepts mastered, and concepts that need more work. Updated after every session.

Report Card — Tap "Generate Report" to create a full PDF summary of your child's progress. Share it with teachers, family, or tutors.

Session history — Every session listed with subject, duration, and a preview of what was covered.

Set a focus — Tell Sage to prioritize a specific subject (like "Math — fractions" before a test). It shows up on your child's home screen and in every session.
Talk to Sage — Voice Mode
The fastest way for kids to learn. They just talk — no typing, no menus.
VOICE MODE SCREEN

Enable it first — Voice mode is off by default. Go to your child's home screen → ⚙️ Settings → Voice Mode → turn on. A "Talk to Sage" button appears on the home screen immediately.

The Voice Orb — A pulsing circle at the bottom of the session screen. When it shows "TAP," your child taps to start speaking. It turns red while listening, then pulses teal while Sage is thinking.

How it works — Your child taps the orb and speaks their answer. Sage listens (using the same technology as Gboard), responds out loud in a warm voice, then automatically listens for the next answer. Like a phone call with a tutor.

⋯ Menu (voice mode) — Tap the three-dot menu in the top right for extra options: Teach It Back to Sage (deep learning), Speed Drill (math facts), or End Session.

📎 Attachment (mid-session) — Even in voice mode, your child can tap the 📎 icon to upload a photo or document. Great for when they realize mid-session that they need help with a specific homework problem.
