Here's everything you need to set up Sage, run the diagnostic, and understand what you're looking at — step by step.
Works on any device · No download required for web · iOS coming soon
Sign up with your email at app.sagetutor.app. Then click Add Child and enter their name, grade, and which curriculum their school follows — Alberta, Common Core, England's National Curriculum, or Generic/Homeschool.
Each child gets their own profile, their own progress tracking, and their own personalized sessions. One subscription covers every child in your household.
From your child's home screen, tap "Discover how you learn". This is a 15-minute assessment across Math, Reading, Writing, and Science — it maps exactly where your child stands and where the gaps are.
The results go straight to your Parent Dashboard. After this, every session Sage has with your child is calibrated to their exact level — not their grade level on paper, but where they actually are.
Click any subject on the home screen, or use the Homework card if they have something due tonight. Sage takes it from there — it'll introduce itself, ask what they want to work on, and begin teaching step by step.
For younger kids or anyone who doesn't like typing, turn on Voice Mode in Settings first. They can just speak, and Sage responds out loud like a real conversation.
Two options: "Help me solve this" — upload a photo before starting, Sage walks through each problem step by step. "Did it click?" — upload after completing it, Sage checks understanding without just re-doing it. This is the most-used feature daily.
"Continue" picks up exactly where the last session left off. The subject grid below it shows every subject your child has added — click any to start a focused session. The level badge and progress bar update as they learn.
Pop Quiz — 8 rapid questions across subjects. Surprise Me — Sage teaches something fascinating (black holes, why the sky is blue, how bridges hold weight). Practice Pack — a custom drill set based on current progress.
Sage never just gives answers — it asks questions, gives hints, and walks through thinking step by step. Your child can upload photos mid-session anytime using the 📎 button. The ⋯ menu has extra options: "Teach it back to Sage" (for deep understanding), Speed Drill (math facts), and End Session.
The streak counter tracks consecutive days of learning. 🛡️ shields protect the streak if they miss a day. Progress bars and level badges update in real time as concepts are mastered — kids notice and it motivates them to come back.
Turn it on in Settings → Voice Mode. Once enabled, your child taps one button and just talks. Sage listens, responds out loud, and listens again — no typing ever. Best for: younger kids (K–4), auditory learners, car rides, and any child who finds typing a barrier to actually learning. It's the feature parents most often say they wish they'd turned on sooner.
Kids can create essays, short stories, novels, reports, poetry, or journal entries. Each type has its own planning tools — an essay gets a Thesis Builder and Argument Map; a short story gets a Premise Builder and Three Beats structure.
At any point, your child can request a coaching pass. Sage reads what they've written, quotes their actual text, and gives 2–3 specific observations — each ending with a question to push their thinking. It never rewrites their work. Always ends on praise.
Every save creates a snapshot. Your child can flip back through their writing history, preview any earlier version, and restore it if they want. No work is ever truly lost.
When a project is finished, Sage writes a personal reflection on what your child accomplished — specific to their actual writing. They can download a PDF, choose a cover color for their portfolio, and see their piece added to the hub with a genre badge.
The Studio is accessible from your child's home screen. Their portfolio lives there — every project they've started or completed, with word counts, time spent, and completion badges. A finished essay or story is a real accomplishment — the Studio treats it that way.
Subject levels, session history, concepts mastered, and concepts that still need work. Updates after every session. You can also set a Focus — tell Sage to prioritize a specific topic (like "fractions before the test") and it shows up in every session until you clear it.
For Alberta families: a full visual map of the Program of Studies outcomes, colour-coded by status — not started, introduced, practiced, mastered. You can see exactly where your child sits against the provincial curriculum at a glance.
Create study tasks for your child — they appear on their home screen. Tap any task to see full details, edit it, or mark it complete. Completed items from previous days auto-hide so the list stays clean.
See your child's active session in real time — the full conversation as it happens. You can leave a Parent Note that Sage will silently read before its next reply, letting you steer the session without interrupting. Great for redirecting focus or flagging something specific.
Generate physical worksheets when you want less screen time. Three options: Custom Worksheet (any topic, auto-difficulty), Gap Practice (Sage identifies your child's weakest area and builds a targeted 10-question sheet), and Weekly Packet (a full multi-page packet based on the last 7 days of sessions — includes a reading passage, writing prompt, and answer key).
Generate a full written progress report — Sage writes an AI narrative of your child's learning, with per-subject analysis, concept coverage, session log, and recommendations. Download as PDF. Works for any curriculum, not just Alberta.
Run it when you start, then again in 30 days. The gap between the two results is the clearest measure of what Sage has actually done for your child.
Enable OpenDyslexic font in Settings → Accessibility. Combined with Voice Mode, this makes Sage fully usable for children who struggle significantly with reading or typing.
Snap any worksheet, PDF, or document and Sage reads it instantly. Works mid-session too — your child doesn't have to re-type the question, they just upload the page.
Every week, Sage emails you a plain-English summary of what your child covered, how they engaged, and what to focus on next. No login required — it comes to your inbox.
Add every child in your household under one account. Each gets a completely separate profile, progress tracking, and experience. One price for the whole family.
A daily discovery prompt — Sage teaches something genuinely fascinating outside the usual curriculum. Black holes, bioluminescence, the history of zero. Kids who click it once almost always come back.
Start with the free diagnostic — 15 minutes and you'll know exactly where your child stands.
