Our Story

Built by parents.
For your kids.

Sage started with a simple frustration: why is it so hard to get a child the help they actually need?

It was a Tuesday evening. Homework spread across the kitchen table. Grade 4 math — fractions. One kid crying, one parent Googling, and a growing sense that there had to be a better way.

We looked at what was out there. Private tutors cost $60–$100 an hour and can only be there a few hours a week. Boxed curriculum programs were rigid and couldn't adapt. Generic AI tools like ChatGPT gave answers without teaching. Nothing actually solved the problem.

"We wanted something with the patience of a saint, the knowledge of a great teacher, and the ability to show up at 9pm on a Tuesday — without charging by the hour."

So we built it. Sage is the tutor we wished we'd had: one that knows your child's name, their grade, their curriculum, and exactly where they're stuck. One that teaches step by step instead of just giving answers. One that keeps you informed without making you feel like you need a teaching degree to understand the update.

Why we built it for homeschool families first

Homeschooling puts the full weight of education on parents. There's no school building to fall back on, no specialist to refer to, no resource room to send a struggling child to. You are the curriculum, the teacher, the homework helper, and the progress tracker — all at once.

We have deep respect for what homeschool parents do. And we wanted to give them something that genuinely lightens the load — not a toy, not a flashcard app, but a real tutoring partner that handles the one-on-one instruction so parents can focus on everything else.

Sage works just as well for school families too. But homeschool parents were the ones who needed it most, so they shaped what it became.

What we believe about education

🧠

Understanding over answers

Sage never just gives the answer. It walks through the thinking. A child who understands the process can solve the next ten problems. A child who copies an answer can't.

👶

Every child is different

Kids learn at different paces, in different ways, at different times of day. Sage adapts — to the child's level, their learning history, and the moment they're in.

👨‍👩‍👧

Parents should be informed

You shouldn't need to sit in on every session to know how your child is doing. Sage sends weekly briefings so you always have the full picture.

🔒

Privacy is non-negotiable

Your child's conversations are private to your family. We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we never will. We make money from subscriptions — full stop.

Where we're based

Sage is a small team based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We started with the Alberta Program of Studies because it's the curriculum we know best — and because Alberta families deserved a tool built for their kids specifically, not retrofitted from a US product.

Ontario and BC are next. Then Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and beyond. We're building this province by province, the right way — not all at once and half-baked.

We're early. That's a feature.

Sage is a young product. That means it's not perfect. But it also means your feedback genuinely shapes what gets built next. Every feature request, every bug report, every "I wish it did this" email goes directly to the people writing the code.

If you try Sage and have thoughts, we want to hear them. Reach us at [email protected] — it goes to a real person, not a support ticket queue.
